Dimitar Berbatov expecting Donny van de Beek to speak to Manchester United over future

Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov expects Donny van de Beek to hold talks with the Red Devils over his future.

Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov is expecting Donny van de Beek to have a serious discussion with the Red Devils at the end of the season.

The Netherlands international joined United from Ajax last summer and has made 25 appearances in all competitions for the 20-time English champions.

The 23-year-old has largely struggled to make his mark for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, though, and has only featured twice in the Premier League since December 20.

Berbatov has claimed that Scott McTominay's form has been 'bad news' for the Dutchman, and the former United striker has suggested that talks will have to take place between the two parties this summer.

"McTominay's success is not good news for Donny Van de Beek," Berbatov told Betfair. "I don't see the situation changing for him any time soon unfortunately. He will get a game or two in different competitions and I'm pretty sure he isn't happy with the situation.

"I'm expecting that he will have some talks with the club at the end of the season because I don't think he will want to start next season the same way. It's unfortunate and sometimes football is like that, I would like to see him play, but at the moment I just can't see that happening.

"Maybe I'm wrong and he'll get more game time and he plays more. But it goes to show that you don't always need to buy players."

Van de Beek started Tuesday's 1-0 win over West Ham United in the FA Cup but was withdrawn in the second period when the score was still goalless.
