Bury release John Rooney

John Rooney, the brother of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, is released by League Two Bury.

The brother of Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has been released by Bury.

John Rooney leaves the Shakers by mutual consent, having made just four first-team appearances for the League Two club since signing a 12-month contract at Gigg Lane in July.

The 23-year-old spent December on loan at Chester, scoring one goal in four Conference starts.

Rooney began his senior career at Macclesfield Town, before moving to the USA where he enjoyed spells at New York Red Bulls and Orlando City.
