Lille forward Jonathan David hints at a potential move to either the Premier League or La Liga during the summer market.

Lille forward Jonathan David has talked-up a potential move to either the Premier League or La Liga during this summer's transfer window.

The 23-year-old's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with a number of clubs believed to be interested in signing him at the end of the campaign.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both been heavily linked with the Canada international, while Real Madrid are also thought to be admirers of the centre-forward.

David has been in impressive form for Lille during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 21 goals and contributing four assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.

The Canadian struck a hat-trick in Lille's 3-3 draw with Lyon on Friday night, and he said after the match that his immediate focus was on helping his team climb the Ligue 1 table.

However, David admitted that a move to the Premier League or La Liga would be a "dream".

"The furthest I can see for the moment is the next game and helping Lille get back into top four," Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano quotes David as saying following his treble against Lyon.

"Saturday mornings growing up in Canada were about the Premier League and La Liga. Premier League and La Liga are every kid's dream."

David's three goals on Friday evening saw him become Lyon's highest goalscorer in the 21st century on 53, moving past Eden Hazard in the process.

"This isn't something I set out to do, but it feels great. I have a lot of respect for Eden Hazard as a player, and to have broken his record here at home is very special," he told reporters when asked about the record.

David started his professional career at Gent, scoring 37 goals and registering 15 assists in 83 appearances for the Belgian outfit before making the move to Lille.

The forward has scored 53 goals and registered nine assists in 125 appearances for his French side in all competitions, including three Champions League goals in eight outings.

David helped Lille win the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title, scoring 13 league goals, but a disappointing 2021-22 campaign saw the team finish down in 10th position in the table.

Les Dogues boss Paulo Fonseca recently admitted that it would be difficult for his side to keep hold of the Canadian amid the growing interest in his services.
