Everton, Leeds United want Manchester United's Sergio Romero?

Everton are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United's Sergio Romero to provide competition for Jordan Pickford, but could face competition from Leeds United.

Everton and Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United backup goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen to provide more competition for current number one Jordan Pickford, whose position as first choice for both club and country came under scrutiny last season.

Romero has spent the past five years as understudy to David de Gea at Manchester United but is widely regarded as one of the best backup goalkeepers in world football.

The 33-year-old has won 96 caps for Argentina and has regularly impressed when called upon in cup competitions, but the battle for the United number one spot is likely to intensify even more with Dean Henderson returning from his loan spell with Sheffield United.

The Mirror reports that United are open to offers for the shot-stopper and that he would welcome the chance to fight for regular first-team football at Goodison Park.

The report also claims that Leeds are monitoring Romero's situation ahead of their return to the top flight.

The Championship winners have already signed Illan Meslier on a permanent basis this summer, while Kiko Casilla was their number one for much of last season, but Marcelo Bielsa is understood to be considering a move for his compatriot.
