Real Madrid are reportedly expected to clarify the position of Fabio Coentrao following last night's failed move to Manchester United.
The Red Devils launched a late loan bid for the Portugal international after accepting defeat in their attempts to sign Leighton Baines from Everton.
Despite Madrid releasing a statement, it was swiftly removed, prompting claims that the required paperwork was not completed in time before yesterday's 11pm deadline.
Reports have also claimed that Madrid pulled out after failing to replace Coentrao with Granada's Guilherme Siqueira, who joined Benfica on loan, according to Sky Sports News.
The Premier League champions are said to have moved for Coentrao after completing the signing of midfielder Marouane Fellaini from Everton.
