Manchester United reportedly consider a last-ditch attempt to hijack Lionel Messi's proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United could reportedly make a late attempt to hijack Paris Saint-Germain's move for Lionel Messi.

The Argentine remains in Barcelona after bidding a tearful farewell to the Catalan giants, but he is thought to be closing in on a free transfer to the Parc des Princes.

Messi is understood to have a two-year contract offer on the table from Mauricio Pochettino's side, with his entourage still going over the details before he puts pen to paper.

However, with the six-time Ballon d'Or winner still a free agent, journalist Duncan Castles has claimed that Man United are now considering an approach, telling the Transfer Window Podcast: "He's available and looking for a club. It's interesting to see what decisions will be taken by clubs.

"It's interesting Manchester United – who have talked about their coherent strategy and planning that have gone into their transfers and they've been quick to do deals for two important players in positions where they needed players in – are saying, 'Well, can we do something for Messi?'. I'm not surprised PSG are pushing to do it."

Messi's trophy-laden spell at Barcelona saw him claim 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns, but former Blaugrana manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out a reunion with the 34-year-old at Manchester City.
