Jose Mourinho plays down chance of January arrivals

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho insists that he is not on the lookout for new signings in January as he is happy with his current squad.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has played down suggestions that he will look to add to his squad during the January transfer window.

United have been linked with the likes of Dimitri Payet and Jose Fonte in a bid to push for the top four in the second half of the season, while Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger have all been tipped to leave the club.

Mourinho stopped short of ruling out any movement either in or out of Old Trafford during the window, but insists that he is happy with his current squad.

"I am quiet and calm and see what happens. As I was saying, I would like to keep my squad the same. But as a manager I never feel I have the right to stop people to try to be happier and to try to give a different direction for their careers," he told reporters.

"So if the conditions are right for the club and that moment arrives during the month of January, then we will have to react so let's see what happens.

"But if you ask me in this moment, am I waiting for someone to be here on the first of January, or are we chasing some player because on that date we want to have here a new player? Not at all. I like my squad, I trust my squad."

United currently sit six points adrift of the Champions League places heading into Saturday's match with West Bromwich Albion.
