Manchester United manager David Moyes believes that signing a new midfielder would improve his squad at Old Trafford.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has admitted that he is looking for a midfielder who can have an impact at Old Trafford.

Moyes has been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas, and the Scot has revealed that signing a player in that position is his priority ahead of the new campaign.

The 50-year-old told reporters: "When I got the job, I was made aware of what could possibly be done to improve things.

"Signing a midfield player was one area where we thought we could possibly add to the squad.

"It's hard to get top quality players who can come in and affect your team. That's why we're trying to go for what we see as the right players and the best players."

Barcelona have reiterated that Fabregas is not for sale.
