Manchester United manager David Moyes has warned fans not to expect too much from the club during the January transfer window.
The Red Devils, who are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, have been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea winger Juan Mata over the past few days.
However, Moyes has told supporters that he is focusing more on the summer instead of signing any players for the sake of it this month.
"I fully understand that supporters are keen to see us freshen up the squad with new faces, but January is a difficult month in which to bring people in," the Scot told United Review.
"While we are actively scouting players all the time, a lot of the work we are doing now is preparation for the summer.
"If we can do any business now then we will certainly try to do it, but I will not compromise the standards required for a player that can come into this club and help improve it."
United return to action tonight when they will try to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit at home to Sunderland in the League Cup semi-finals.
