Ray Parlour believes that Arsenal's willingness to sell Robin van Persie to Manchester United is a bad sign for the club.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has admitted that it is a "big blow" for the club to allow Robin van Persie to discuss a move with Manchester United.

The Dutch striker is expected to move to Old Trafford this week after the Gunners agreed a fee with the Red Devils on Wednesday, and Parlour claims that the sale is a bad sign for Arsene Wenger's team.

"It's been years since Arsenal sold a player to Manchester United," Parlour told talkSPORT. "They were always our massive rivals and I know we sold a lot of players to Manchester City but Manchester United were always our rivals and we didn't want to help them.

"It's a big blow for Arsenal but I'm just hoping with the money they receive from the transfer that Arsene Wenger has got a replacement in mind."

United midfielder Michael Carrick has revealed his excitement at the prospect of teaming with Van Persie.
