Manchester United have reportedly called time on their pursuit of Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a £10m swoop for the Belgian following the summer departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Yesterday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed that United are one of a number of clubs who have expressed an interest in the 28-year-old.
However, according to Sky Sports News, United have pulled out of a possible deal due to their refusal to consider a player swap agreement.
Spanish giants Barcelona are believed to be favourites to seal the defender's signature.
