Manchester United 'to begin £50m Wayne Rooney talks'

Manchester United are reportedly confident that Wayne Rooney will sign the £50m contract that they will offer him when talks between the two parties begin.

Manchester United are reported to be preparing a four-year £50m contract offer for Wayne Rooney and are confident that the striker will sign it.

The Red Devils talisman's future at Old Trafford has been heavily scrutinised since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that he handed in a transfer request at the end of last season.

Chelsea had two summer offers for his services rejected and Rooney has since starred in United's poor start to the Premier League season, but the club want him to commit to a long-term deal.

According to the Daily Mail, Old Trafford chief executive Ed Woodward has contacted Rooney's agent Paul Stretford several times in the past fortnight and discussions are to begin soon.

Rooney, who has always insisted that he has never asked to leave the club, is contracted until 2015.
