Wolverhampton Wanderers chief Matt Wild plays down rumours linking midfielder Ruben Neves with an exit from Molineux, amid Manchester United and Liverpool interest.

Wolverhampton Wanderers chief Matt Wild has played down rumours linking midfielder Ruben Neves with an exit from the club, amid interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.

After manager Nuno Espirito Santo's departure from Molineux, ending his four-year reign at the club, it is suggested that the playing squad is to undergo changes this summer also.

Neves is believed to be valued at £35m by Wolves, which would see them make a £15m profit on the midfielder if they were to receive a sum in that region, and help the club fund transfer targets of their own.

Man United have been long-term admirers of Neves and could look to replace Fred, while Liverpool are on the search for a replacement for the departing Georginio Wijnaldum.

Wolves' club secretary Wild re-assured fans that there is plenty of time left on Neves's contract on a Q&A on the club's official social media channels: "I think in the press or our fans are thinking he's only signed up to 2023, but in fact he is on contract until 2024.

"He's still got another three years, so fans don't need to worry that he's going to be going anywhere, or he's going to be out of contract any time soon. So, yes, he's still got another three years on his contract."

Neves arrived at Molineux in 2017 and has gone on to score 20 goals and provide 10 assists in 176 appearances for the club.
