Zinedine Zidane remains desperate for Real Madrid to secure a deal for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, according to a report.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is reportedly still desperate for his club to secure a deal for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba either in January or at the end of the season.

The Spanish giants were strongly linked with a swoop for the France international during the summer transfer window but were not able to agree a transfer fee with United.

Pogba, who has not turned out for his English club since the end of September due to an ankle problem, will see his current deal at Old Trafford expire in June 2021.

That said, the Red Devils can extend the midfielder's contract for a further 12 months, placing the club in a strong position when it comes to any negotiations.

According to Marca, Zidane views Pogba as 'the missing piece of the puzzle', with the Frenchman desperate for Madrid to complete a deal for the 26-year-old at some point during 2020.

However, the report claims that the Madrid hierarchy, including president Florentino Perez, are 'still not convinced' when it comes to the 2018 World Cup winner, who could cost upwards of £100m.

Pogba has scored 31 times and provided 31 assists in 148 appearances for United in all competitions, with 141 of those outings coming since he returned to the club from Juventus in the summer of 2016.
