Melbourne City head coach pays tribute to Damien Duff

Melbourne City debutant John van 't Schip hails the display produced by debutant Damien Duff against Sydney FC.

Melbourne City head coach John van 't Schip has praised the performance that Damien Duff put in during his A-League debut earlier today.

Having been released by Fulham at the end of last season, the former Republic of Ireland international agreed a one-year deal with City in June.

Loanee striker David Villa claimed the headlines during the 1-1 draw with Sydney FC thanks to his equalising goal, but the Spaniard was assisted by Duff.

"Today you could see he is an experienced player. He is a great example for everyone in the team," Van 't Schip told reporters.

Duff started his career with Blackburn Rovers, before turning out for Chelsea, Newcastle United and Fulham.
