Mexico, Bolivia play out stalemate in Copa America clash

Neither side can find a breakthrough in the 90 minutes of the Copa America Group A clash between Mexico and Bolivia.

Mexico and Bolivia played out a goalless draw in their opening match of the Copa America this evening.

Mexico were the first team to threaten as Juan Carlos Medina fired a volley at goal from the edge of the box after he was teed up by Matias Vuoso, but his effort drifted wide of the post.

Mauricio Soria's side carved out an opening when Ricardo Pedriel found space to fire a strike at goal on the volley, but Jesus Corona reacted to the danger to tip the ball past the post.

Just before the break, Bolivia had a good chance to take the lead as Jhasmani Campos beat his marker with a swift turn and curled an effort towards the bottom corner, but Corona turned the ball behind for a corner.

From the resulting cross, Corona came for the ball and missed it, but Alejandro Morales could only put his header into the side-netting.

In the second half, Mexico should have gone ahead as a cross from the right came in from Corona for the unmarked Vuoso in the box, but he could only guide his header agonisingly wide of the post.

Medina had another opportunity for Miguel Herrera's men as he collected the ball inside the penalty are following a well-worked move, but he could not hit the target from 10 yards out.

Mexico upped the ante late in the match as Javier Guemez latched on to Luis Montes's dangerous cross into the box, but Morales came up with a huge block for Bolivia to deflect the ball behind.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the dying seconds, but neither could force a breakthrough as they were forced to settle for a point apiece.
