Millwall assistant Marc Bircham leaves for MLS side Chicago Fire

Marc Bircham leaves his role as Millwall assistant to join MLS outfit Chicago Fire.

Millwall have announced that assistant manager Marc Bircham has left his role at the club to join MLS outfit Chicago Fire.

The 36-year-old, who began his playing career with the Lions, will link up with Frank Yallop in Chicago after a year alongside Ian Holloway at The Den.

"This was a very hard decision to make because I really feel there are good times ahead for Millwall under Ollie," Bircham told the club website.

"But I had almost gone to the MLS earlier in my career, and this time, when the chance came up, it just seemed like such a great opportunity for myself and my family."

First-team coach Nigel Gibbs is expected to be promoted as Holloway's new assistant.
