Preview: Millwall vs. Rotherham United

Sports Mole looks ahead to Saturday's Championship encounter between in-form Millwall and newly-promoted Rotherham at The Den.

Not many people would have had Millwall unbeaten after the opening three matches of the Championship season, but that is the position they find themselves in ahead of Saturday's clash with Rotherham United at The Den.

The Lions have roared through a tricky-looking start to the season, and their confidence and never-say-die attitude shone through with a 95th-minute equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

That goal ensured that Ian Holloway's side remain unbeaten in all competitions so far this season, and they will be confident of being able to say the same after this weekend's match against their newly-promoted opponents.

Indeed, Millwall, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, go into this match joint top of the table, albeit at such an early stage of the season.

Holloway raised a lot of eyebrows when he predicted a top-half finish and possible playoff push for his side this year but, the way his side have started, such a scenario is no longer looking as unlikely.

Victory over Leeds United on the opening day was followed by an even more impressive win against Fulham at Craven Cottage last weekend, while the midweek draw with Wednesday saw the Lions concede for the first time this season.

Holloway could opt to name an unchanged side this weekend, although Ricardo Fuller is pushing for a start ahead of Lee Gregory. Nicky Bailey, meanwhile, is expected to miss up to a month with a groin injury.

Like Millwall, Rotherham were tipped to face a relegation battle this season, but there have been promising signs for the Millers in their opening three games.

Losses to Derby County and Watford have provided positives despite the scorelines, while a victory over fellow new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday gave them their first win back in the second tier.

Even the most ardent Rotherham fan will admit that his side rode their luck in that match, however, and they may need a bit more good fortune to overcome a Millwall side brimming with confidence this weekend.

Midfielder Richard Smallwood joined the club on loan from Middlesbrough earlier this week and was thrust straight into Tuesday's starting lineup, and he could once again feature from the off this weekend.
