Younes Belhanda says that he hopes to carry on playing for Montpellier beyond the end of the season.

Montpellier playmaker Younes Belhanda has insisted that he wants to remain at the club beyond the summer.

The 22-year-old turned down an offer from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in January to stay on and help the defending French champions finish in the top four in Ligue 1 this season.

"It's tricky to leave in the middle of a season, especially as the first part had only been mediocre," ESPNSoccernet quotes him as saying.

"Firstly, I want to play well in the second half of the season. Then I'll talk to the president to see what happens in June.

"But I don't want to stop playing at Montpellier. Personally, I hope to achieve the same stats as last season: 12 goals and five or six assists, that wouldn't be bad for a mediocre season."

Belhanda's current contract with Montpellier runs out in June 2014.
