Motherwell manager Stuart McCall has claimed that James McFadden will sign a new contract at Fir Park before the weekend.
The 30-year-old striker returned to the club in February on a short-term deal after spells with Everton, Birmingham City and Sunderland.
McCall has said that McFadden would be a good signing for the club.
"It will be done either this afternoon or first thing in the morning," McCall told BBC Sport.
"He's had a few things to weigh up but I think he's more than happy to sign a deal here and get some football under his belt and thrive at what is a good club for him. Obviously he's good for us as well.
"It will be a great signing not only for ourselves but also for Scottish football to have a player of his ability and talent."
McFadden netted five goals in 13 appearances for Motherwell last season.
