Guus Hiddink: 'Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben will retain Netherlands captaincy'

Newly-appointed Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink reveals that Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben will retain the two captaincy positions with their national team.

Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink has revealed that he has no intention of making any changes to the captaincy set-up with the World Cup semi-finalists.

Robin van Persie skippered the Dutch side in Brazil with Arjen Robben acting as his deputy, and as he was unveiled as Louis van Gaal's replacement, Hiddink was quick to state that the two attacking players would remain in their current roles.

The 67-year-old told reporters: "It's too early to talk about technical decisions. Robben and Van Persie were very important so I think that they will remain captains. I can't say in what order yet."

Earlier on Friday, former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy was announced as part of Hiddink's backroom staff.
