Pardew: 'We weren't threatening enough'

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew believes that his side were not threatening enough in front of goal during their shock 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Brighton.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew admitted that his players were not clinical enough in front of goal during their shock FA Cup defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Mike Williamson's second-half own goal was enough for the Championship side to claim a fourth round win over their Premier League opponents.

"I felt we weren't threatening their goal enough. They defended well, Brighton, to be fair to them," Pardew told ESPN.

"We had a good grip of the game [in the first half], we felt comfortable.

"We just struggled to get more shots on goal, to get more chances."

However, the Magpies boss was pleased with his side's overall display.

"I can't really fault my players too much in terms of the commitment they have shown," he added.

Newcastle face a trip away at Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League on Wednesday.
