John Carver desperate to remain in charge of Newcastle United

John Carver insists that he is still keen on becoming Newcastle United manager on a full-time basis.

John Carver has insisted that he is still determined to remain in charge of Newcastle United despite their recent run of poor results.

The Magpies have lost their last six league games, but Carver, who was put in charge until the end of the season following Alan Pardew's departure, is confident that he is still in the frame to keep the job.

"We have had discussions about ongoing issues at the club but I have not been given any assurances or been told what my situation is next season," he told reporters.

"What I have got is a five-year deal. I feel in contention, why wouldn't I?

"I'm the guy in charge and I'd like to remain in charge. I'm not a defeatist. I'm a positive guy and I'm not going to write myself off."

Newcastle will look to end their poor run when they host Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
