John Carver: 'Newcastle United should bring in more like Jack Colback'

John Carver says that Newcastle United should be looking to sign more players in the mould of Jack Colback.

Newcastle United head coach John Carver has said that the club should look to sign more players like Jack Colback.

The midfielder moved to St James' Park from Sunderland on a free transfer last summer, becoming the first man for 16 years to move directly from the Black Cats to Newcastle in the process.

Colback's form earned him a call-up to the England squad earlier this season, and Carver says that he has been impressed with the 25-year-old's attitude since he joined the Magpies.

When asked if he felt that Colback fits the profile of player that United will be looking to sign in the future, Carver told The Chronicle: "Absolutely. He's a player who wants to be here, wants to play and has the right character.

"With Jack, whatever you ask him to do he will do for you. He's gone and played left-back. It's not his position and he knows that and I know that, but he's filled in.

"Sometimes you have to fill in for a short space of time. He's done that, and done it extremely well."

Colback has scored four goals in 33 appearances this season.
