Newcastle United's Jack Colback: 'We're in a dangerous position'

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback admits that his side need to secure their Premier League safety sooner rather than later following a run of six straight defeats.

Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback has confessed that his side are in grave danger of being dragged into the Premier League relegation battle.

The Magpies have lost their last six matches, including their 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park on Sunday, to leave themselves seven points clear of the drop zone with five games remaining in their season.

However, with upcoming matches against Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers on the horizon, Colback has admitted that his side need to secure their safety sooner rather than later.

He told The Chronicle: "If we are not careful we will get dragged into it. It is a dangerous moment, we would be naive to think that we are out of it just yet. I think one win would do it.

"We need to get it as soon as possible, and then get a few more. Then finish the season on a bit more of a positive note and kick on next season."

The 25-year-old also revealed that he had no problem with the protest by some of the club's supporters ahead of their match against Spurs.
