John Carver pleased with Fabricio Coloccini return

Newcastle United boss John Carver admits that he is pleased with the prospect of the return of captain Fabricio Coloccini from suspension.

Newcastle United boss John Carver has revealed his delight over the return of Fabricio Coloccini for his side's match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Argentine has missed his side's last three matches, including their defeat in the Wear-Tyne derby, after receiving a straight red card in the Magpies' loss at Everton.

Newcastle have been forced to play Daryl Janmaat out of position at centre-back to cover for the absence of the 32-year-old, and Carver believes that his return will provide his squad with a major boost.

"It's fantastic to have Colo back this weekend," Carver told the club's official website.

"He's our captain, the leader of this football club and has been for a long time. Having him out there will give everyone - players and staff - a huge lift, and I'm sure we will get a huge performance out of him.

"Colo is a great presence in the dressing room and has brilliant leadership qualities on the pitch. He's a top player with huge experience that can help the younger players in the squad."

Newcastle will be without midfielder Moussa Sissoko for the clash against Spurs at St James' Park as he is suspended for two matches following his sending-off against Liverpool.
