Newcastle United forward Islam Slimani to serve three-match ban

Newcastle United confirm that forward Islam Slimani will serve a three-match ban for violent conduct after kicking West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson.

Newcastle United have confirmed that forward Islam Slimani will sit out the remainder of the season due to suspension.

Last weekend, Slimani kicked West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson - who appeared to stand on the Algerian's foot - but the incident was missed by the referee.

However, the Football Association announced earlier this week that the Leicester City loanee had been charged with violent conduct and faced the prospect of missing the rest of the campaign.

Newcastle have revealed that Slimani accepted the charge but questioned the length of the suspension, only for an Independent Regulatory Commission to reject the frontman's appeal.

The punishment means that Slimani will now return to Leicester having played just 131 minutes of football since joining the Magpies on loan in January.
