Manager Rafael Benitez has reportedly indicated that he will only pen a new contract at Newcastle United if he receives 'written guarantees' over the club's transfer plans.
Last season, Newcastle secured promotion from the Championship and in the first campaign back in the Premier League, Benitez has guided the Magpies to the brink of a top-10 finish in the standings.
The Spaniard will be offered a new contract at St James' Park but according to The Mirror, it will only be signed if more money is made available for transfers.
Despite Newcastle comfortably avoiding relegation, Benitez has been left frustrated in the last two windows and the 58-year-old is keen for the North-East outfit to match his own ambitions.
Newcastle have spent £45m since last summer but much of that outlay has been offset by player sales.
