Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew believes that Fabricio Coloccini and Danny Simpson will sign new contracts with the club soon.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that progress has been made regarding contract talks with defensive duo Fabricio Coloccini and Danny Simpson.

The pair have 18 months remaining on their current deals at the Sports Direct Arena.

Despite the lengthy discussions, Pardew is confident that agreements will be reached soon.

"We've had conversations [with both players]," he said. "I can see a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel now.

"I can understand why fans are concerned, but we're making progress.

"It's not easy, contracts, and we're trying to do what's best for the football club and what's best for the player. Sometimes, they are worlds apart."

Simpson joined the Magpies from Manchester United in 2010, while Colocinni arrived in 2008 from Deportivo.
