Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez admits that he is looking to improve his goalscoring record with the Magpies.

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has acknowledged that he must start to contribute more goals for the Magpies.

Perez has spent the last four years at St James' Park and is regarded as a first-choice player by Rafael Benitez, but the attacker has contributed just 35 goals from 154 outings in all competitions.

The Spaniard ended the last campaign with six strikes from eight appearances, but the former Tenerife frontman has admitted that he needs to find more consistency in the final third.

The 24-year-old told Chronicle Live: "I want to get better numbers as a striker and that's the aim. I want to be even more consistent in terms of performance and add goals to my game.

"The team did very well last season. I was really happy to chip in with goals, but now it's a new season and I'm making sure we're ready to it."

Newcastle begin the new Premier League season with a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
