Newcastle United's unbeaten start to the Premier League season continued this afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic.
Neither side created any goalscoring chance of note during the opening 45 minutes, prompting Newcastle manager Alan Pardew to withdraw his starting strike partnership of Demba Ba and Leon Best.
However, it was not a striker that claimed the winning goal for the Magpies.
Roberto Martinez's Wigan failed to clear a cross from Ryan Taylor and Frenchman Sylvain Marveaux acquired possession. He in turn pulled the back for compatriot Yohan Cabaye who instantly curled the ball into the top left hand corner of the net from 18 yards out with ten minutes remaining.
Wigan were unable to force an equaliser and have now lost six Premier League matches on the bounce.
