Mike Ashley 'planning squad overhaul at Newcastle United in the summer'

A report suggests that Newcastle United chairman Mike Ashley will rebuild his side's squad over the summer with £60m worth of investment.

Newcastle United chairman Mike Ashley is reportedly planning a £60m overhaul of his side's squad this summer.

The Magpies are ready to cash in on several first-team players, including captain Fabricio Coloccini, Cheick Tiote and keeper Tim Krul and Ashley will look to use the money to rebuild the team.

The owner will hand a transfer budget of £60m to his new manager when he finds a permanent replacement for Alan Pardew as he seeks to get value on the market before fees for English clubs inflate due to the terms of the new television deal, reports The Mirror.

Newcastle are reportedly eyeing for Derby County manager Steve McClaren to take reins from interim boss John Carver at the end of the season.
