Rafael Benitez 'given January transfer kitty'

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly handed a healthy transfer kitty to use in January.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has reportedly been told that he has transfer funds available next month should he desire to improve his squad.

The Magpies have led the way in the Championship table for most of the season so far following a summer in which they spent £57m on new players but recouped £86m in player sales following their relegation from the top flight.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley was impressed with Benitez's savvy performance in the summer transfer window and is now "comfortable" with the Spaniard "running the football side of the club".

Following the last transfer window, Benitez has a £29m profit at his disposal should he need it in January, as well as Premier League parachute payments, which remain untouched.

The club have been linked with a mid-season move for Rangers midfielder Josh Windass in recent days.
