Cheikhou Kouyate rules out January move to Premier League

Cheikhou Kouyate disappoints Newcastle United and Southampton by announcing his intention to stay with Anderlecht until the end of the season.

Newcastle United and Southampton have been deterred in their attempts to land Anderlecht centre-back Cheikhou Kouyate in January.

The 23-year-old, who is also believed to have attracted the attention of Arsenal, revealed that he would like to stay in Belgium for the rest of the season before eventually moving at the end of the campaign.

"I want to finish the season here," he told La Derniere Heure. "I want to win the title with Anderlecht.

"If this is not the case, I still want to go. I do not want to leave this team now. I will design a transfer at the end of the season."

The Belgian club are said to value Kouyate at around £5.5m.
