Back-to-back wins for Newport County

A 2-1 victory over Torquay United sees Newport County record back-to-back wins in the Football League for the first time in 25 years.

Newport County have won back-to-back games in the Football League for the first time in 25 years.

The Welsh side, who recorded their first away victory of the season by beating Exeter City last weekend, overcame Torquay United 2-1 at Rodney Parade this afternoon.

Ismail Yakubu's first goal since April put Newport ahead on 28 minutes before Danny Crow drilled home to double the lead eight minutes later following a fine assist by Conor Washington.

Adebayo Azeez, who joined Torquay from Charlton Athletic on a one-month loan yesterday, marked his debut with a goal to set up a nervy final half-hour for the hosts.

However, Newport's backline held firm to secure all three points, which sees Justin Edinburgh's men climb to eighth in the League Two table.
