Clarke Carlisle remains in hospital after serious road accident

Clarke Carlisle remains in hospital following a serious road accident in Yorkshire, although it is understood that his injuries are not life threatening.

Former Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle remains in hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a lorry yesterday morning.

The 35-year-old was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary following the incident on the A64, although Sky Sports News reports that the injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

North Yorkshire police confirmed that there had been a collision involving a male pedestrian and a lorry, but the cause of the accident is not yet known.

Carlisle announced his retirement from football last year following 16 years in the game, in which time he represented a number of clubs including Burnley, Leeds United, Queens Park Rangers and Blackpool.

Upon hanging up his boots, Carlisle took up a role with the PFA while also fronting numerous anti-racism campaigns.
