Gary Lineker: 'Gianni Infantino has one hell of a job to do as FIFA president'

Former England footballer Gary Lineker says that Gianni Infantino has "one hell of a job" to do after being elected the new FIFA president.

Former England international Gary Lineker has claimed that new FIFA president Gianni Infantino has "one hell of a job on his hands" after being elected Sepp Blatter's successor in Zurich on Friday.

The UEFA general secretary received 115 votes in the second round, beating pre-election favourite Sheikh Salman (88), Prince Ali (7) and Jerome Champagne (0).

Blatter has held office since 1998, but announced last year that he was stepping down following the arrest of numerous FIFA officials accused of corruption offences.

The Swiss official himself was banned for eight years, now reduced to six, from all football activity for making an alleged "disloyal" £1.3m payment to UEFA president Michel Platini in 2011.

After Infantino was elected, Lineker tweeted: "Wish @Gianni_2016 all the best. He's got one hell of a job on his hands but seems a decent chap. Needs a sizeable new broom."

Swiss Infantino, who is of Italian origin, has been UEFA general secretary since 2009.
