Wife: 'Clarke Carlisle getting better, stronger each day'

The wife of former Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle reveals that her husband is awake in hospital where he continues to 'get stronger' each day.

The wife of Clarke Carlisle has revealed that the former PFA chairman is awake in hospital following his collision with a lorry last month.

The 35-year-old was involved in a serious car accident on the A64 near York in December, which has left him hospitalised since.

Carlise's condition has been kept quiet in recent weeks, although spouse Gemma has confirmed that her husband is "getting better and stronger each day".

"Thank you again for asking after Clarke. He's still in hospital but is getting better and stronger each day," she said on Twitter.

Asked by another user on the social media site if Carlisle has woken up, Mrs Carlisle replied: "Yes."

North Yorkshire Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and appealed for witnesses.
