FIFA lifts suspension imposed on Nigerian Football Federation

FIFA lifts sanctions it imposed on the Nigerian Football Federation for government interference.

FIFA has lifted a suspension imposed on the Nigerian Football Federation for government interference.

The governing body banned all of the country's national teams and clubs from playing in international competitions on July 9, but has now backtracked on the decision.

"FIFA has noted that the court proceedings and order preventing the president of the NFF, the NFF Executive Committee members and the NFF Congress from running the affairs of Nigerian football that prompted the suspension have been withdrawn," said FIFA in a statement.

"As statutory order has been reinstated at the NFF and the legitimate bodies reinstalled, FIFA has decided to lift the suspension as of [Friday].

"The lifting of the suspension means that all rights of the NFF as a FIFA member as defined in article 12 of the FIFA Statutes are reinstated."

Nigeria reached the last-16 phase of this summer's World Cup, going down 2-0 to France.
