Northampton Town to confirm Chris Wilder as manager on Monday?

Northampton Town could name former Oxford United boss Chris Wilder as their new manager as early as tomorrow.

Northampton Town have been granted permission to speak to Chris Wilder about becoming the club's new manager.

Wilder reportedly resigned from his position at Oxford United yesterday, although his agent claimed earlier today that the speculation was not true.

However, Northampton have now revealed that they have agreed compensation with Oxford and that the 46-year-old has ended his contract with his former club.

The Cobblers could name Wilder as their new manager as early as tomorrow, with the club sitting bottom of the Football League having won just one of their last eight games in all competitions.

"Northampton Town have been given permission to speak to Chris Wilder about the vacant manager's position at Sixfields," read a club statement.

"The club have agreed compensation terms with Oxford United and Oxford have confirmed that Wilder has terminated his contract."

Northampton have been without a permanent manager since parting company with Aidy Boothroyd on December 21.
