Steve McClaren reveals resignation reason

Steve McClaren says that a lack of ambition was behind his decision to quit as manager of Nottingham Forest yesterday.

Steve McClaren has claimed that a lack of ambition was behind his decision to leave his role as manager of Nottingham Forest.

The 50-year-old resigned from his position following Forest's 3-1 home defeat to Birmingham City yesterday afternoon.

Reports have suggested that McClaren clashed with the club's board as he looked to bolster his playing squad with a number of signings that never came to fruition.

"I resigned, they don't share the ambition that I came for," said McClaren.

After deciding that his position at the City Ground has become untenable, McClaren waived his right to any severance pay by resigning.
