Pacos de Ferreira narrowly edge Academica de Coimbra in bad-tempered game

Pacos de Ferreira secure a 1-0 win against Academica de Coimbra in a bad-tempered Primeira Liga game that saw both sides reduced to 10 men.

Pacos de Ferreira have secured a 1-0 win against Academica de Coimbra to climb to seventh in the Primeira Liga table.

In what turned out to be a bad-tempered and fragmented game, Roniel opened the scoring two minutes before the break, by which point three players had already been cautioned.

The second half saw no further goals but six more bookings were dished out among both sides, while Diogo Jota and Ricardo Nascimento were both shown red for fighting in the last few minutes of the game.

Academica ended their first matchday in 15th place following their defeat.
