Adam Rooney penalty enough for Aberdeen to beat Partick Thistle

Adam Rooney's first-half penalty is enough for Aberdeen to beat Partick Thistle and close the gap to the Scottish Premiership's top four.

Adam Rooney's first-half penalty proved to be enough for Aberdeen to beat Partick Thistle in this afternoon's Scottish Premiership match at Firhill Stadium.

Rooney had a goal disallowed before James Craigen fired just wide for the hosts in the early stages.

Aberdeen frontman Rooney then had a low shot turned away by Paul Gallacher before he won the 34th-minute penalty by getting shoved in the box by Abdul Osman.

The 26-year-old made no mistake from the spot for his third goal in four games.

Aberdeen held firm in the second half, with Partick unable to muster a shot on target in the entire 90 minutes.

The visitors stay fifth despite the win, but close to within four points of league leaders Celtic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Partick are ninth, seven points ahead of bottom sides St Mirren and Ross County.
