Genoa defeat relegates Pescara

Pescara's relegation to Serie B is confirmed by a 4-1 defeat at Genoa, with Marco Borriello bagging a brace.

A 4-1 defeat at Genoa this afternoon has finally confirmed Pescara as the first side to be relegated from Serie A this season.

Pescara knew that only a win would do to stave off relegation for another week, but the visitors fell behind early on, thanks to a measured header from Antonio Floro Flores.

Marco Borriello quickly doubled Genoa's advantage, but a neat header into the top corner from Pescara captain Giuseppe Sculli five minutes later gave the visitors hope.

A superb exchange between Andrea Bertolacci and Borrelio broke Pescara's stubborn resistance midway through the second half, with Genoa's top scorer applying a composed finish from close range to complete a brace.

Bertolacci put the result beyond doubt late on with Genoa's fourth to give Davide Ballardini's side precious three points in their own fight to avoid the drop.
