Porto qualify for last 16 of Champions League

Porto qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

Porto booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao at San Mames this evening.

Goals from Jackson Martinez and Yacine Brahimi were enough for the visitors, who moved up to 10 points at the top of the group as the La Liga side were dumped out of the competition.

The lively Martinez caused problems for Athletic's defence throughout, but the Colombian international should have opened the scoring on 26 minutes, but the striker somehow put the ball wide after he found space at the back post.

The Portuguese side spurned a glorious opportunity at the end of the half when Martinez missed a penalty after Danilo had been fouled inside the area.

However, Martinez's evening got a lot brighter after the break when he put his side 1-0 up 11 minutes into the second period.

Yacine Brahimi skipped by a number of challenges before crossing to Martinez, and there was no mistake this time as he tapped in from close range.

Brahimi then made it 2-0 to give his side the points they needed to move into the knockout stages with two games to spare.
