Preview: Paris Saint-Germain vs. Quevilly - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Friday's Club Friendlies 1 clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Quevilly, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Paris Saint-Germain will begin their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign with a pre-season clash against Ligue 2 outfit Quevilly on Friday afternoon.

Christophe Galtier's side are working towards their Ligue 1 opener against Clermont on August 6, while Quevilly will begin their Ligue 2 campaign at home to Rodez on July 30.

PSG reclaimed the Ligue 1 title last season, finishing comfortably clear at the top of the division with a points total of 86, some 15 points ahead of second-place Marseille.

The capital giants were eliminated in the last-16 stage of both the Coupe de France and Champions League, though, with the season going down as a disappointment, which played a role in Mauricio Pochettino leaving his role as head coach.

Galtier is now in charge of the Blues, and the 55-year-old will lead PSG for the first time in this contest, while the team will also take on Kawasaki Frontale, Urawa Reds and Gamba Osaka in friendlies this summer before tackling Nantes in the Trophee des Champions on July 30.

PSG's 2022-23 Ligue 1 campaign will then begin at home to Clermont on August 6, and it will be fascinating to see whether there are any more new faces through the door.

Nuno Mendes has joined on a permanent basis from Sporting Lisbon, while Vitinha has made the move from Porto, but it has otherwise been a quiet summer for the club, who have allegedly rejected the chance to sign unsettled Manchester United centre-forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Quevilly, meanwhile, finished 18th in Ligue 2 last season, which saw them enter the relegation playoffs, but they managed to beat Villefranche 5-1 on aggregate to ensure that they would stay in the second tier.

The Red and Yellows opened their pre-season on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Le Havre, and they now have friendlies against PSG and Amiens SC before beginning their 2022-23 campaign.

Quevilly will host Rodez in their opening match of the new Ligue 2 season on July 30 before travelling to Paris FC in their first game of August.

Fabien Mercadal's side have been busy this summer in terms of incomings, with Till Cissokho arguably their standout acquisition, having made the move from Clermont.

A number of players have also departed on free transfers, so their squad will have a different look for next season, which was arguably needed due to their struggles during the 2021-22 campaign.

Team News

PSG boss Galtier could hand a debut to summer arrival Vitinha, while Mendes is also likely to feature for the first time since joining the capital giants on a permanent basis.

Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are all available for selection, and the trio could be in the starting XI, while Sergio Ramos could feature at the back, with the defender looking to put a frustrating season behind him.

Ramos is likely to be joined in the middle of the defence by Marquinhos, as it is unclear whether Presnel Kimpembe will feature amid strong reports linking him with a switch to Chelsea.

Galtier will make full use of his squad during the contest, meaning that there are unlikely to be opportunities for a number of their young players to make an impression on the new manager.

As for Quevilly, a number of their summer signings, including Cissokho, Andreas Hountondji, Louis Mafouta and Alexandre Bonnet are likely to be in the starting side here.

Justin Smith will also be hoping to play a part following his arrival on loan from Nice B, while Samy El Khiar could be given the chance to impress in the final third of the field.

Paris Saint-Germain possible starting lineup:
Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Ramos, Mendes; Gueye, Herrera, Vitinha; Neymar, Messi, Mbappe

Quevilly possible starting lineup:
Boulais; Bansais, Cissokho, Tegar, Dekoke; Pierret, Bonnet, Bangre; Mafouta, El Kliar, Hountondji

We say: Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 Quevilly

It is always difficult to know exactly what to expect from matches at this stage of pre-season, but we are finding it extremely tough to predict anything other than a comfortable victory for Galtier's side, who will have superior quality all across the pitch.
