Paris Saint-Germain allegedly want super-agent Jorge Mendes to help Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Mauro Icardi.

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly asked super-agent Jorge Mendes to try to help Wolverhampton Wanderers sign Mauro Icardi.

With the French giants having handed a substantial pay-rise to Kylian Mbappe to retain the forward's services, Icardi is allegedly one of the players who will be allowed to depart Parc des Princes this summer.

Even with the Argentine having only being used as a backup option during the last campaign, the 29-year-old will be regarded as a coup by whoever signs him before the end of August.

Having spent the last nine years representing either Inter Milan or PSG, there is every expectation that Icardi will eventually sign for another club competing in the Champions League.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, Wolves have surprisingly entered the equation, even if not by registering an interest themselves.

In a column which features in the newspaper, it is claimed that PSG have enquired whether super-agent Mendes is able to play a part in taking Icardi to Molineux.

The report does not state whether any stay at Molineux would be on a permanent or temporary basis, but highlights that it would be regarded as a small part of PSG being able to sign their desired replacement.

The departure of Icardi is allegedly key to the Ligue 1 champions finalising a deal for Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca over the coming weeks.

Having scored 16 goals from his 36 Serie A appearances during 2021-22, Scamacca will now sign for a European giant, potentially for a fee in the region of £35m.

While Icardi moving to Wolves may make sense for PSG, the Premier League outfit would have to tinker with their current transfer strategy to accommodate the player.

Wolves reportedly want a younger, fresher squad next season, and that is said to even include being open to offers for long-time frontman Raul Jimenez.

Furthermore, a certain amount of priority is likely to be placed on trying to get the best of Fabio Silva, the £35m youngster now having just two years left on his contract.

As it stands, the current focus is on midfield with Wolves awaiting offers for Ruben Neves and looking to get a deal over the line for at least one potential replacement.

If reports are to be believed, Wolves face missing out on signing Sporting Lisbon's Joao Palhinha to Fulham if they are not proactive in finalising terms with the Portuguese outfit and the player.
