Charlie Austin 'doesn't care' if Queens Park Rangers get promoted through playoffs

Charlie Austin says that he doesn't care if QPR have to go through the playoffs to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin has said that he doesn't mind if Queens Park Rangers have to go through the playoffs to get promoted to the Premier League.

After they held on to many of their highly-paid stars following relegation from the Premier League last season, QPR were installed as favourites for promotion.

They began the season solidly but since the start of February they haven't won a league game, dropping into the playoffs and nine points shy of Burnley in second.

Their slide coincides with a shoulder injury suffered by Austin which is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.

"At the start of the season the papers had us down as favourites, saying we should win the league with the money we've spent and the players we've got," Austin told Squawka.

"Everyone inside the club feels the same. We're still confident that we can get back on track and win promotion.

"If we finished sixth, 20 points behind the leaders and still got promoted in the playoffs, I wouldn't care at all. It's all about getting back to the Premier League for QPR, it doesn't matter how."

Austin, who was a summer signing from Burnley, scored 14 Championship goals this season before he suffered the injury.
