Mbia: 'Players got Hughes sacked'

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Stephane Mbia thinks that Mark Hughes deserved more from the squad during his time in charge.

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Stephane Mbia has declared that the players should take the blame for the club's current plight and Mark Hughes's sacking earlier this season.

Hughes was dismissed after failing to win any of QPR's first 17 league games, and Harry Redknapp was quickly brought in to help the Hoops find results in the fight for survival.

Mbia believes that Hughes deserved more from the crop of players he signed and has vowed to give everything to help QPR secure their Premier League status this season.

He told Daily Mail: "Should the players feel guilty about Mark Hughes's sacking? Yes, I think so.

"He gave everything for everybody at this club. I think it's the players' fault. I think if the players had the same mentality under Hughes they have now, we would not be in this position.

"The manager was never the problem. Mark Hughes has quality, Harry Redknapp has quality. But the players didn't want to give their best for Hughes. I don't know why it's like that. We should have done the same when the previous manager was here. Maybe they are more afraid of Harry."

QPR continue their fight to beat the drop this afternoon with a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at Loftus Road.
