Redknapp: 'QPR wages cost team spirit'

Harry Redknapp admits that wage inequality has cost Queens Park Rangers their team spirit and ultimately their Premier League place.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Reknapp has admitted that the difference in wages for players produced a dressing room split.

Rangers signed the likes of Christopher Samba and Loic Remy in January, reportedly paying them more that the likes of Jamie Mackie and captain Clint Hill.

Redknapp admits that it has been a problem because the highly-paid players were not proving to be worth it.

"There are splits in the camp," Redknapp said. "I'd be a liar if I said there wasn't. It's been obvious for everyone to see all year.

"People don't mind others getting good money if they earn it. It's not a problem if you play at a club with Robin van Persie, Steven Gerrard or someone and you know he's getting 140 grand and someone else is getting 50 grand.

"You don't mind that because you know he's worth it. But when players look and think 'he's not doing any better than me', it's difficult."

QPR take on Reading today and a win for either team would relegate the other, although both sides are seemingly headed for the drop.
